Carpentry Studio
Carpentry is the basis for furniture making. It is the experience to create and execute plans, how to use machines and when to sharpen tools. The carpenter stands between the wood and the tools and must react to both, making their convergence smooth and flawless.
Working with Wood
The Custom Carving studios are fully equiped with the most state-of-the-art machines and well cared for hand tools. All of our material comes in a rough state. We straighten, clean and cut each board to size, both in thickness and dimension, while eliminating cracks, knots, and bends. Even after a furnishing is joined, glued, and sealed with a durable two-part two-layer laquer, solid wood continues to breathe. Many details must be taken into consideration. You cannot even simply cuting up a wide board without understanding that it is not likely to remain flat and straight without proper attention. At Custom Carving we build many solid wood cabinets to widths of up to 50cm or more in diameter. We reglue these wide boards in a way that restrengths the wood, using a unique "glue joint" amd flipping each board in turn against the grain to ensure straightness for years to come.
