The fast spinning of the lathe releases the gravity from the workpiece, allowing us to treat its surface similar to how we work hot glass, in the round. The lathe is a useful tool in creating original wood moulds and other compatible shapes for combining with blown glass vessels and sculpture, allowing us to create seamless joints between the materials.

At Custom Carving we create many objects on the lathe, including, but not excluding: wood moulds, lighting fixtures, Chuppah Poles, Columns, table legs, podiums, and more. This techniqe is a particular pleasure to use with found local woods that we have harvested and cured ourselves in the studio, and is an excellent use of Olive Wood. Our joinery techniqes and addition of inlayed glass and hand carving to vessels are what make our lathe work particularly unique.
